The Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, Irakli Lekvinadze, summarized the results of the measures implemented within the March 11-15 Consumer Protection Week and spoke about the importance of informing citizens about consumer rights: "With the association agreement signed with the European Union, Georgia undertook the responsibility to strengthen the field of consumer rights protection. Strengthening public awareness regarding effective protection of consumer rights and informed choices is crucial. The meetings with the target audience organized by six regulatory agencies within the week, which took place today, March 15 - on the International Consumer Protection Day in Batumi, serve precisely this purpose: engaging in discussions with consumers.” - Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, Irakli Lekvinadze, announced at the meeting.

According to GNERC's chairman, Davit Narmania, it is essential for every citizen to be informed about their rights in the energy and water supply sectors, as well as in other sectors: "The international week organized by the six regulatory agencies serves to raise awareness among citizens about consumer rights. As you know, in accordance with the directives of the European Union, the process of reforming the energy market is underway, which considers active and informed consumers. When market liberalization is completed, consumers will have the option of choosing electricity or natural gas service providers. Therefore, it is important for consumers to know the quality and standards of service they should expect from utility companies. In this regard, GNERC, along with its colleague agencies, cooperates continuously with various stakeholders. Today, on the International Day of Consumer Rights Protection in Batumi, we introduced the levers available for consumer rights protection by six regulatory agencies to professors and students at the university. We will actively continue to provide citizens with information about their rights in various formats.’’ – stated Davit Narmania.

According to the head of the State Insurance Supervision Service, Davit Onofrishvili, it is important that this year the week was held in a wider format and, in addition to Tbilisi, covered three major cities of the region - Gurjaani, Kutaisi, and Batumi. "For the effective protection of consumer rights, it is necessary to have a modern legal base. Additionally, informing each consumer about his or her rights is crucial. It is important for each consumer to know who or how to contact in order to protect their rights," said Davit Onofrishvili.

Within the framework of the week, consumers were provided with information about their rights in the field of insurance and the authority of the State Insurance Supervision Service of Georgia. The opening event of the week held on March 11 in Tbilisi, where six regulatory agencies responsible for protecting consumer rights reviewed the results, challenges, and enforcement mechanisms in the direction of consumer rights protection.

Within the framework of the week, meetings with consumers were held on March 12 in Gurjaani, on March 14 in Kutaisi, and on March 15 - the International Day of Protection of Consumer Rights - in Batumi.
